Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater (Lunch & Dinner) - Disney's Hollywood Studios
September 4, 2015
Located in the heart of Disney's Hollywood Studios, the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater offers an extremely unique gluten free dining experience. When you enter the restaurant, you are transported into a 1950's nighttime drive-in movie! The tables are cars that seat two in each row, all facing a massive movie screen showing 1950's movie trailers and other fun, vintage videos! I don't know about you, but I LOVE drive-in movies! So, throw in gluten free, All-American grub, and I am SOLD!
The Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater has an allergen menu with options for gluten/wheat, dairy, peanuts, and other top allergens. But, if you see something that you would like from the regular menu, I would suggest speaking to a chef! The new allergen menus can be limited, so speaking to a chef opens new options! Also, all of the gluten free or allergen items that come to your table will have a stick in it that states "ALLERGEN" for extra assurance!
Now, the star of the drive-in, the concessions! This is probably one of the only drive-ins that a gluten free eater can actually indulge in everything the concession stand has to offer (anyone else pack their own food for a drive-in?)!
Sci-Fi serves up some seriously amazing milkshakes! You can choose between either chocolate or vanilla! No thin milkshakes here; spoons are definitely required!
As an appetizer, my brother and I love to share the spinach artichoke dip which is served with corn chips. The dip is a blend of monterey jack, parmesan, spinach, and artichokes. Then, it's topped with a layer of bubbly, broiled cheese to create this creamy and cheesy delight.
In the past few years, I used to CRAVE their salmon BLT! But, Sci-Fi recently removed the item from the menu! Bummer! Just for old times' sake, here's a picture so you can just appreciate the beauty.
Since the salmon BLT has been removed, I branched out! I tried the reuben instead, and honestly, I was glad I did! The reuben is served with tender slices of corned beef, sauerkraut, melted swiss cheese, and thousand island dressing. You have the option of cucumber salad or these thick cut fries! I love the fries, and they are always served piping hot!
I'm sure you noticed the strange bread that the reuben is on; where's the sliced bread? Well, at Sci-Fi, they use a gluten free wrap for their sandwiches! The wrap is a folded gluten free pizza crust, and it is amazing with a sandwich! Why haven't I thought of doing this at home? Sci-Fi is the only restaurant I have found with such a unique gluten free bread!
Of course there is always room for some gluten free dessert! Sci-Fi offers the OMG Gluten Free Brownies served warm and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle chocolate sauce! YUM!
Some other great gluten free options at Sci-Fi are the chicken wings, cheeseburger, St. Louis style ribs, penne pasta with cream sauce or marinara, or a smoked turkey sandwich!
The unique atmosphere of Sci-Fi Drive-In Theater along with the delicious gluten free options makes this restaurant a definite favorite of mine! Escape the Florida heat with some 1950's movies and classic All-American food with a great gluten free twist! Next time you are in Hollywood Studios, check out this one of a kind drive-in experience!
