Located in the newly renovated Disney Springs, the Boathouse is a breezy, relaxed place to enjoy top notch, fresh seafood and steaks. Opened in April 2015, the Boathouse is a newer addition to Disney Springs. My mom and I dined outside by the dock, and we loved seeing the Amphicar launch! The atmosphere is way more casual than the prices let on. This is the perfect place to go on a beautiful, sunny, Florida day.
The Boathouse does not have one of Disney’s recently rolled out gluten free menus, so a chef will come out and speak to you about your allergies! The chef I spoke with was very accommodating and friendly!
Now onto the gluten free offerings at the Boathouse! I feel that this restaurant is quite pricy, but the Boathouse offers really fresh and high quality food.
When I spoke to the chef, I expressed interest in the grilled salmon sandwich. Good news: The Boathouse has gluten free buns! Bad news: The Boathouse has gluten free tapioca buns. Bummer. I feel like the tapioca buns need to be heated perfectly to be edible, otherwise they taste a bit like Styrofoam. Hopefully they change their gluten free bread offering in the future, so I can try the salmon sandwich!
So, like I said, sandwiches and burgers are options as the Boathouse carries gluten free rolls. But, I decided to go for something else. The chef said that the mahi-mahi tacos could be made with corn tortillas instead of flour! The tacos come with jerk-spiced mahi-mahi, crisp vegetable slaw, avocado, and serrano-chili cream. I looooove avocado, and the serrano-chili cream sauce that they drizzle over the tacos adds a perfect spicy kick. The tacos were very fresh, and I loved the toppings! I would definitely come back for more mahi tacos!
My mom and I wanted to try one of their sides as the tacos come a la carte. The chef informed me that they do not have a dedicated fryer for their truffle fries, so that was not an option. But, he recommended the roasted new potatoes served with old bay remoulade sauce for dipping. We really enjoyed this which made the perfect side for our tacos! The dipping sauce was excellent, and the potatoes were cooked perfectly.
Although we did not try any of them, the Boathouse offers mango sorbet and frosted mug ice cream floats as gluten free dessert options!
Overall, we really enjoyed the Boathouse for their airy, relaxing atmosphere and gluten free offerings. I hope that in the future they get a dedicated fryer and better gluten free bread. But, until then, I will definitely return for some gluten free fish tacos and roasted new potatoes!
