Located in Universal’s Islands of Adventure, Mythos is a wonderfully bright and open restaurant that invites gluten free and gluteny diners alike to take a break from the busy park. When walking by, Mythos catches your eye because it looks like a massive cave. When you enter the Mythos, the theme continues as it feels like you are dining in a cavern.
On the menu, there is a GF symbol next to anything that is gluten free or can be prepared gluten free with a change. The waiters and waitresses are very knowledgeable, so just tell them that you have celiac or are gluten free. They will answer any questions. I am sure a chef could be requested, but I have always felt comfortable with the waitstaff.
The gluten free options on Mythos menu are abundant! The food has a Greek inspired flare to match the theming of Greek gods like the Poseidon attraction located across from Mythos (which is very cool, so you should check that out too). Although the food is Greek inspired, they also offer surprising American options and even Thai options.
Instead of the complimentary bread that comes to the table, the waiter brings some delicious gluten free rolls that are some of the best I have ever had. Absolutely delicious!

To begin, My mother and I shared the Mezze Platter which features a tasting of housemade hummus, babaganoush, marinated fennel, and olives typically served with charred pita. The only alteration needed to make the platter gluten free is to leave off the pita and add their amazing gluten free rolls instead. The babaganoush (a dip made from eggplant) was our absolute favorite! The hummus was pretty great too spread on the warm gluten free rolls they bring.
Other gluten free appetizer options include tomato soup and a variety of salads. I have heard that the tomato soup is excellent!

I always aim to try a different gluten free entrée when I come to Mythos because there are so many great options! First on the agenda… the seasonal risotto. Obviously, this dish changes, but mine was a creamy risotto with corn, bell peppers, balsamic reduction, and topped with grilled beef tenderloin. The dish came with beef tips which weren’t gluten free, so they substituted the medallions instead. I loved the addition of the balsamic and the sweetness of the corn. Delish!

Next, I had to try one of their amazing rolls with a sandwich. So I ordered the Chicken “BLT.” To be gluten free, the sandwich is served on a gluten free roll with a grilled chicken breast, tomato jam, lettuce, applewood smoked bacon, and pickled red onion. They were able to do gluten free fries as well! This is a great sandwich and the fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned.

Finally, the last entrée I have tried, the pad thai with rice noodles, grilled chicken and shrimp, and mixed vegetables all tossed together with a sweet and sour peanut sauce. This dish is amazing! Out of all the dishes I tried, this might come out on top! The sweet and sour peanut sauce has a great, unique flavor. Also, the rice noodles hold up well and do not break apart. The only change to make the pad thai gluten free is to leave off the crispy noodles on top. It is a big portion too, with plenty of chicken and shrimp throughout! My mom and I shared it and walked away full.

Other gluten free options: blackened fish tacos, seared salmon, grilled swordfish, a variety of salads, and a lamb burger or hamburger.
Finally, the best part. Dessert! I have a major sweet tooth, so a good gluten free dessert is very important to me! Mythos does not disappoint! The chocolate banana gooey cake can be made gluten free by substituting the peanut butter ice cream to vanilla and leaving off the fried plantain. The flourless chocolate cake is perfectly fudgey, and the caramel sauce that surrounds it is some of the best out there! Definitely try this dessert out if you love all things sweet!

Mythos is the perfect place to escape the busy park and enjoy some unexpected “theme park food.” The food is extremely fresh, and they have numerous delicious gluten free options for all tastes. I can’t wait until the next time I have the opportunity to indulge in gluten free pad thai and gluten free chocolate banana gooey cake!
